Asincronie International Documentary Film Festival was founded in 2020.
The Asincronie Festival is a project created and curated by 4CaniperStrada, a group of filmmakers and
photographers, a cultural association that has been promoting the language of cinema and photography in Sardinia for fifteen years through the production of documentary films, the organisation of festivals, exhibitions, meetings with authors, workshops, and cultural and social projects that use audiovisuals as a tool for the critical investigation of reality. Asincronie is an international film festival dedicated to documentary cinema that brings multiple voices and gazes about contemporary society in the Island of Sardinia. The festival aims to value the “creative documentary”, a genre that gives an original vision to current world issues through an innovative cinematographic approach. The program includes an original selection of feature, mid-length and short films – including audio documentary – able to give a critical point of view of the contemporary world, from both Italian and international directors. The festival programs film and artworks that experiment different relations among memories, sound and images, organizing screenings, photographic exhibitions, workshop and masterclass.
Call for documentary films (up to 52 minutes) and audio documentaries
Documentary films up to 52 minutes For the 2024 edition, the festival opens a call for short or medium-length documentary films (up to 52 minutes), never screened in Sardinia and produced since 2021.
The call is open to creative documentaries, by a single or collective author, with unpublished or archive images.
By “documentary of creation” we mean artworks of vigilant observation and courageous confrontation with the so-called “reality” of the inhabited world, beyond and “on the other side of the images of reality with their extraordinary precision”. This means works
that question a geographical, human or temporal fragment from the present: daring poetry, attempting a critique.
The following are not admitted: reportages, documentaries of a journalistic and especially commercial type, of a purely didactic-informative or divulgative purpose, installations and/or videos created for museum use, works of fiction, biopics or self-celebratory films, uncritical documentaries, investigations and visions (even implicitly) of tourism.
Audio documentaries Documentaries of sound creation, made by authors, audio producers, editors and directors of any genre, age, language and origin, with no limit in length and of any year of production, but unpublished in Sardinia, are admitted to participate.
All works must be in the original language, with English subtitles, and in Italian if different from Italian.
SUBMISSION
The deadline for submitting entries is 7 April 2024.

To participate, you must complete the entry form and send the required materials to [email protected].
In addition to the entry form, you are requested to send 2 high resolution photos of the film (300 dpi, jpg), a poster (jpg or pdf), a pressbook of the film and a trailer, if available. A contribution of 10 euros for organisational and secretarial costs is required to register your film via Paypal at [email protected] or by bank transfer on request.
ONLINE FESTIVAL PLATFORM.
For the 2024 edition, the festival successfully organized its programme on netfest, from June 27 to July 1. The selected works were presented in their original version with Italian subtitles and were visible exclusively in Italy. It is reminded to those who wish to participate in future editions of the Festival that participation is conditional upon accepting the online screening of the film on netfest.
SELECTION
The selection is carried out by the artistic direction. The films may be included in the official programme or in the Asincronie OFF section, which takes place in the autumn.
The directors of the selected films may be invited to attend the festival on screening days.
The Festival does not cover rental costs for the selected films. The information regarding the selected films will be used for the preparation of the catalogue and for the promotion of the works through the web and social media.
The artistic direction reserves non-exclusive rights to use the works received for archival, promotional, educational and cultural purposes. By signing the participation form, the director, the production and/or the distribution, grant the Association 4CaniperStrada the right to use and screen the candidate film for archival, popular, promotional, educational and cultural purposes, in activities free of charge and subject to prior agreement with the right holders.
Participation in the Festival implies acceptance of these regulations. The artistic programme, calendar and screening times are the sole responsibility of the Festival organisation.
