CINEITALIANO IIC GUATEMLA

January 1st | December 31st

1st Edition

CINEITALIANO – cinema, all year round. Online and in person. The Italian Cultural Institute of Guatemala City is pleased to present the new development of CineItaliano, a project conceived as a true digital window onto Italian cinema. Thanks to the collaboration with the Netfest platform, the club dedicated to film lovers now opens to an online audience, overcoming physical distances and bringing the best of Italian film production directly into people’s homes throughout the country.

The aim is to create a regular appointment with beauty: every month, a newly selected film will be made available to the public, offering a continuous journey through the faces, landscapes and stories that express Italy and its cultural richness. All films will be presented in their original language with Spanish subtitles, encouraging both language learning and a deeper understanding of the cinematic work. Cinema is not only entertainment, but also a faithful mirror of history, culture and the musicality of the Italian language. Through this initiative, the Institute renews its commitment to promoting an ever closer dialogue between Italy and Guatemala.

To inaugurate this new digital space, we have chosen to begin with a programme dedicated to Europe Day. Every year on 9 May, the spirit of unity and cooperation among peoples is celebrated, recalling the first steps of a journey born from the desire to build lasting peace and deep solidarity among nations.

The first two events on the platform will be

A New World

“A New World” (2014) by Alberto Negrin retraces the roots of the European ideal, telling the story of Altiero Spinelli and the political prisoners on Ventotene who were able to imagine a free and united Europe.

Like Crazy

“Like Crazy” (2016) by Paolo Virzì is a vibrant human comedy about the friendship between two women on the run in search of freedom. Presented at the Cannes Film Festival, the film won the David di Donatello for Best Film, addressing the theme of mental health with sensitivity and irony.
