THE PRAGUE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL \u2013 FEBIOFEST<\/h2>\n

Festival was founded in 1993 by FEBIO, an independent film and TV company. Starting as an enthusiastically organized, basically no-budget event for a couple of friends and film buffs, Febiofest has grown during the past years into one of the largest film festivals in the Czech Republic.<\/span>
\nPrague IFF \u2013 Febiofest guarantees excellent screening conditions for all formats, not to mention supreme comfort for festival-goers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Basically the festival is oriented towards full length films, bringing to Czech audiences the best films of the last year, as well as distribution premieres, retrospectives and tributes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks to its broad overview of the latest and best cinematography from around the world, high quality screenings and famous guests, every year the festival\u2019s exceptional programme draws large, curious and appreciative audiences of all ages and receives much critical acclaim in the press.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the festival has completed its run in Prague, selected films (mostly distribution pre-premieres) travel to other Czech cities to give movie lovers beyond the capital an opportunity to see high quality films.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Main Competition focuses on the most impressive and most daring films from all over the world. The competition chiefly focuses on young and up-and-coming directors and presents the debuts and second films of talented film-makers. Many of the films have already successfully featured at major international festivals.<\/span><\/p>\n

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL FEBIOFEST AWARD<\/h2>\n

The\u00a0Amnesty International Febiofest Award<\/b>\u00a0is granted in cooperation with the Czech branch of\u00a0Amnesty International<\/b>. The Festival\u2019s primary focus is on feature films. With the exception of themed and retrospective sections, the majority of films are being shown in the Czech Republic for the first time.

JURIES AND AWARDS<\/h2>\n

MAIN COMPETITION \u2013 THE JURY<\/b><\/p>\n

The main competition focuses chiefly on young creators, presenting either the debut or second films of talented filmmakers, many of which were already successfully introduced at important international festivals. The winner of the main competition is selected by a three-member panel of professionals. For instance, last year, at the 28th edition of Febiofest, the jury comprised Slovakian filmmaker Ivan Ostrochovsk\u00fd, well-known Czech actor, director and scriptwriter Ji\u0159\u00ed M\u00e1dl, and Iranian director and women\u2019s rights activist Mahnaz Mohammadi.<\/span><\/p>\n

The winning film will receive a financial award of EUR 5,000.<\/span><\/p>\n

COMEDY COMPETITION \u2013 AUDIENCE JURY<\/b><\/p>\n

The international comedy competition presents exceptional films from around the world that are stylistically different. The one aspect they all share is the desire to reflect reality with humour and to change the world for the better through laughter. The winner is selected by a jury comprising 33 film lovers who are selected from all applicants by Fero Feni\u010d, the festival\u2019s honorary president. Any film fan aged 15 or older may apply.<\/span><\/p>\n

The chair of the audience jury is always a well-known individual, and this year it is Michal Such\u00e1nek. In previous years, this honorary function was held by, amongst others, Michael Koc\u00e1b, Dana Mor\u00e1vkov\u00e1, Jan Saudek, Marta Kubi\u0161ov\u00e1, Jan Kaplick\u00fd, V\u011bra \u010c\u00e1slavsk\u00e1, Dagmar Havlov\u00e1, Juraj Herz, David \u010cern\u00fd, Miroslav Ond\u0159\u00ed\u010dek, and Theodor Pi\u0161t\u011bk. The winning film will receive a financial award of EUR 3,000.<\/span><\/p>\n

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL FEBIOFEST AWARD \u2013 THE JURY<\/b><\/p>\n

This is the eight year that the festival, acting in collaboration with the Czech branch of Amnesty International, will bestow the Amnesty International Febiofest Award. The films competing for this highly-valued trophy have been selected from across the festival\u2019s sections, and all of them explore topics of freedom, human rights, freedom of expression, and the battle for a dignified life.
