Starting in 1980 as a non-competitive showcase, TGHFF aims to introduce prominent cinema from around the world, promoting cinema as an art form and enhancing intercultural understanding through cinema.\u00a0\"\"Critically acclaimed filmmakers who have visited TGHFF throughout the years include Abbas Kiarostami, Hal Hartley, Atom Egoyan, Olivier Assayas, Fran\u00e7ois Ozon, Theo Angelopoulos, Krzysztof Zanussi, Jean-Pierre Dardenne & Luc Dardenne, Nicolas Winding Refn, Cristian Mungiu, Denis Villeneuve, Isabelle Huppert, Leos Carax. Renowned Asian filmmakers such as Nagisa Oshima, Morita Yoshimitsu, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Yasmin Ahmad, Shunji Iwai, Kim Ki-duk, Lee Chang-dong, Hirokazu Koreeda,
\nHomunculus, helmed by J-Horror master SHIMIZU Takashi and starred by AYANO Go and NARITA Ryo, will have its international premiere in Taiwan as 2021 GHFFF\u2019s Opening Film. The festival also presents several world premieres: Golden Horse Awards-winning director LIN Cheng-sheng\u2019s documentary Among Us delves into the imaginative universe of people with ASD; Tears on Fire (dir. TSAI Yin-chuan), starring James WEN, Annie CHEN, Austin LIN, and LIU Kuan-ting, portrays the life and struggle of firefighters; emerging Hong Kong director CHU Chien-ching illustrates the near future with The Hedgehog Effect.
\nThe year of 2021 marks the 90th anniversary of Frankenstein (dir. James WHALE), one of the greatest horror films of all time. The GHFFF not only brings the classic film back on big screen but also showcases its sequel The Bride of Frankenstein along with two great films inspired by them: Gods and Monsters and The Spirit of the Beehives. The GHFFF also proudly exhibits the latest world cinema titles in several sections; apart from the regular programs such as Fantasy of the Year, Queer Utopia, Nippon Cha Cha Cha, Ain\u2019t No Cure for Love, and Cinephiles\u2019 Choice, the festival introduces a new addition Mayday! Submission<\/strong> <\/span>to the Festival is open for feature, documentary, experimental, animation. Please notice that the Festival only accepts feature-length films over 60 minutes. All films submitted for TGHFF must be completed two years before the festival starting. Taiwan Premiere is required.
\nPlease register as Golden Horse member at festival official website before your submission.
\nThe Festival accepts DCP and 35mm film prints for exhibition. All selected films will be screened in their original version. In principle, if not with English dialogue, films must be subtitled in English or Traditional Chinese. The projection will be made along with Traditional Chinese subtitling using an electronic system.<\/span>\"\"<\/p>\n

Submission deadlines and materials<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The submission is from June 1st to August 2nd. The Festival is not obliged to view late entries.
\n\u200bThe applicant is requested to submit entry(ies) online. The applicant could either upload the film or provide online preview links as the submission material. (We accept only MOV & MP4 files under 2G, please note the link should be downloadable, and the password should be valid until October 2021.)
\nSubmission materials will not be returned. They will be kept in the Festival’s digital library and may be consulted for cultural purposes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Selected films<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Selected films will receive a system notification email before Oct.5th . Once receive the email, participants should email (programme@goldenhorse.org.tw) requested materials as below:
\n– 3-5 Film stills (at least 300 dpi)
\n– A photo, biography & filmography of the director
\n– Press kit
\n– Trailer \/ Poster \/ Original sound track (if available)
\n– \u200bSigned Authorization Form (Enter Submission List to print out.)
\nThe Festival holds the right to use the film stills\/text\/extracts (limited to 10% of the total length and not exceeding 3 min.) provided by the participant to promote the film. This regulation applies equally to the Internet.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20″][vc_separator border_width=”2″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_single_image image=”15598″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]The Golden Horse Awards was founded in 1962<\/strong><\/span>, the original intention was to promote Taiwanese film production and recognize excellent Taiwanese films and outstanding filmmakers. The Chinese Characters “Golden Horse,” pronounced as \u201cKim Ma\u201d in Chinese, are derived from the names of the two outlying islands of Kinmen and Matsu.\u00a0In 1990, the organization of the 27th Golden Horse Awards Competition was transferred from the Government Information Office to The Motion Picture Development Foundation R.O.C., and TGHFF Executive Committee was established under its authority.\u00a0The official name of The Golden Horse Awards has been changed to “Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival,” which is not only the most important film event in Taiwan, the main activities also extend to four parts \u2013 Golden Horse Award competition, Film Festival, Film Project Promotion and Film Academy. The Golden Horse Awards aims at encouraging the development of Chinese-language films. The Film Festival intends for introducing excellent films to Taiwanese audience from around the world to stimulate exchange of ideas and inspire creativity. The Film Project Promotion aims to facilitate cooperation between Chinese filmmakers and international industry professionals. The Film Academy tries to promote young filmmakers\u2019 vision by organizing masters\u2019 classes for them.\u00a0The executive board of the Committee consists of seven to eleven film scholars and film industry professionals, including the Chairman.
